The United Kingdom, South and North

This year, Vicky and I are going to the United Kingdom for almost three weeks. As with our last two long vacations (Canada in 2022 and Poland in 2024), we're keeping a travel log. As we did when we went to Poland, we'll be doing a hybrid tour: our first five days in London we'll be doing on our own. Then we'll take a train to Edinburgh where, after a day on our own, we'll join a 12-day guided tour of Scotland hosted by Gate 1, the tour agency we used for part of our trip to Poland.

As we did last time, we'll post photos without comments on most days of the trip. Then later, as we have time, we'll write down our memories of each day's experiences. Last year I didn't actually finish writing the blog until we'd been back for several weeks. One of the things I've done the last couple of trips is used a self-publishing service to turn our travel logs into illustrated physical books. They're a nice remembrance of each trip. In case you ever want to do anything like it, I recommend the French-based company Blook-Up.

We've got a busy-but-not-too-busy six days in the self-guided part of our trip. We'll visit some of the landmarks of London while hopefully avoiding the overpriced tourist traps. We'll have a Sunday Roast, lunch at the Sky Garden, cruise the Thames, go to a few museums, hit a jazz nightclub and a venue for classical music. After we settle in at Edinburgh, we'll see some of the sights there, then meet the tour which will take us all over Scotland. Maybe we'll get to see Nessie. I'll make sure to stop at the duty-free shop and get some Scotch to take home.

Thanks for reading!
