June 17, 2025 [Click on any photo for a larger view] By this day, the jet lag was mostly gone. We had an easy morning and evening planned, and a mostly unplanned afternoon. We had changed our mind about one thing. The Tate Britain and Tate Modern art museums had both been on our list, and we were going to go to the Modern first. But I wanted to see some Turners (at the Britain) and so we decided to go there first in case museum fatigue would later put that out of play. The Tate Britain is near the banks of the Thames about two miles due south of the British Museum and an even longer walk from our hotel. But it was a short subway ride from King's Cross to Victoria Station followed by an easy walk to get to the Tate. The museum was much less crowded than the British Museum. Days 1 and 2: Travel Hell, a Sunday Roast, and a Canalside Stroll

June 14-15 2025 [Click on any photo for a larger view] This entire blog from Day 1 on is being written after the conclusion of our trip. Unlike last year, we just didn't have time to write while on the go. If you've followed the blog until now, you'll know we just posted pictures every other day or so with the promise of captions and text later. Here it is! The travel days following this post will be filled in over the next couple of weeks. We started our journey with a flight out of Baltimore-Washington International Airport. Actually, our journey started with a drive to BWI from State College. As most of you know, State College has a pretty small airport and it's difficult to get cheap international flights originating there. It also makes scheduling of international flights a bit of a nightmare, with likely long layovers. Day 3: Britain's Treasure Trove, and Jazz in the Evening

June 16, 2025 [Click on any photo for a larger view] On our first night in London, we crashed and we crashed hard. We decided not to set the alarm and in our room with no windows, we were in the dark as to time. I woke up at 9 AM! I guess we really needed the sleep! We headed next door to the Water Rats for breakfast. The Water Rats  is a music venue with a pub at the front. It has an interesting history. It was originally known as the Pindar of Wakefield, and was built in 1517. The current public house was built in 1878. The pub has been visited by many famous personages over the years, including Karl Marx, Friedrich Engels and Vladimir Lenin. The music venue has an even more storied past. It was the site of Bob Dylan's first UK gig. Many artists have performed there before they became famous, including the Pogues, Oasis, Katy Perry, and the Decembrists.
